How We Started
DRP was born during a discussion with the Bucks County Writing Group the summer of 2019, where we expressed our frustration with the portrayal of women in fiction. There were stories that we were writing, but could not find an outlet that would publish them because they did not fit traditional categories. After talking to other published writer friends, we decided to take control into our own hands to create a collection that we would want to read.
Our debut anthology, “Not Quite as You Were Told,” was published on International Women’s Day, March 8, 2020. However, when the world shut-down due to global pandemic that week, we had to cancel our in-person events and readings. We switched to expanded our online presence in social media and reached readers globally.
After publishing our debut, we immediately knew we wanted publish another book and we chose the theme of women keeping secrets – were they kept or revealed? We were blown away by the talent and creativity of the secrets submitted. Our second anthology, “The Secrets We Keep” was published on International Women’s Day, March 8, 2021.
In the autumn of 2021, we were finally able to attend in-person events, specifically arts festivals in the greater Philadelphia area. While at these events, we brainstormed ideas for our next anthology.
The world was much different than it was when we did the first books. The theme of finding one’s voice — speaking up, rising from fires — brought to life the title for our third anthology, “Every Breath Alight.” Once again, we were impressed with the variety and talent of stories submitted. We designed a book cover that had the fiery passion we felt for the stories in the book. We launched “Every Breath Alight” November 2022.
